The original Richbaub’s book—a foundation in grammar & mechanics in ONE academic year—was originally conceived to introduce students to intermediate grammar concepts at schools with rich grammar and mechanics curricula. At schools where grammar instruction is consistent throughout the middle grades, Richbaub’s Introduction to Middle School Grammar is a fantastic starting point, but this popular book has been utilized by tutors and teachers at all types of schools at every intermediate level.
Packed with nearly 160 pages of lessons and practice exercises, this “worktext” is quite dense and requires about 60 minutes of instructional time per week over the course of one academic year.

Academy Grammar 1 & 2 books
Inspired by my work at schools where grammar instruction was less prominent in the ELA curricula, this NEW series offers teachers a slower-paced alternative to Richbaub’s Introduction to Middle School Grammar that aims to reach the same goal: to provide a foundation in grammar and mechanics that fully prepares students for the challenges of higher-level English classes as well as the standardized tests that lie ahead!
Requiring just 45 minutes of instructional time per week over the course of two academic years, Academy Grammar 1 & 2 also include year-to-year concept reviews and introductions to more advanced topics such as appositives, participles, and sentence structure variety.
In short, the Academy Grammar 1 & 2 program goes more slowly but also goes a little further than the Richbaub’s Introduction to Middle School Grammar workbook!
